And We’re Back!
It case you were wondering where the hell this site was for the last… well, most of a day here’s the reason it was offline: My hosting company (Fuitadnet) had a problem with the server where a hard drive cried, rolled over, and threw data all over the place like a spoilt toddler.
Thankfully they do backups (I do pay them to do that afterall). It was slow to get back online, but at least we’re all intact.
Not the best way to round off an already bad day though… grr.
Anyway, I have much to post here, I’ll get things done asap.
People Like Cussing
BoingBoing recently posted about the origins of Dissing in songs. The resulting updates go back a long time, with various “no, actually, it was these guys that cussed people first” type remarks.
You know what? Maybe people just don’t like people, and want to tell them. Music may be immortal, but hate is timeless…
Incredible Underwater Photos
Take one black pool, and a bevvy of artfully undressed models, and you have some of the most stunning colour photography I have seen in a while. Incredible stuff.
Pleasantville

Hi, my name is Gregory, and I’m a romantic at heart.
I really am. A cynical, sarcastic, bitter romantic, but a romantic nonetheless. One of the things that I celebrate most about us as people is our ability to express and communicate emotion. I will never be tired of honest, undiluted, pure emotion. If there is such a thing as a human spirit, I think that is its primary quality.
Pleasantville is a film about honest expression, that questioning yearning for experience, and the ability to communicate that experience.
From that fundamental idea Pleasantville (literally) paints a canvas full of human emotion and experience. It crams in a staggering ammount of commentary, from the political, to the social, to the simple aspects of people human.
You can tell I like it can’t you?
Apple gives iPod Radio, Finally.
After realising the iPod would be good with video playback, Apple seem to have also decided that one of the more requested features is also a good idea.
Radio.
Yes, Apple now has an offical radio ipod accessory that you can spend your money on. It’s about bloody time!
However the interesting part of this for me is that the iPod displays all the data on it’s screen: which means the software to run this is already in the iPod itself, or at least the newer iPods that will use this. I’m guessing that the extra few bits of electronics that the radio needs couldn’t quite fit into the new, slimline, 5G and certainly not into the iPod Nano.
Either way it is a bit of a slap in the face to companies like Griffin, who have been making a tidy sum with their iFM product. The real question I think is: will Apple allow other companies to expose the internal radio software, and so allow real accessory competition? I’m guessing no, but I hope I’m wrong.
