Scott over at VGCats basically seems to be able to sum up my feelings on Episode 3 far better than I did.

Madonna, Coldplay, U2, REM, Dido, Sir Paul McCartney, Keane, Will Smith, Bon Jovi, Stevie Wonder, Maroon 5, Duran Duran, A-ha, Sir Elton John, Jamiroquai…

Not a bad set list when you concider that is only the people who have been confirmed so far.

On July 2^nd the world will change. Its that simple. This concert is not about charity, its about politics. The G8 summit is in Scotland this year and Geldof wants a million people to march up there, showing the politicians what their people want. Make no mistake — if this comes off even slightly like Live Aid did, its going to be talked about for the rest of the decade or longer.

There’s going to be lots of talk on Technorai about this too I would bet, it even gets its own tag: live 8.

Stopping world poverty, stopping the bleeding dry of nations that helped cause the famines that Live Aid fought to raise awareness of. That is what Live 8 is about. You can make a difference, many people did before and this is even more important than it was 20 years ago. I was too young in 1985 to have more of an awareness than “Cool bands on the telly.” Now, in 2005, I can be part of this. It’s not a generational thing, it’s part of standing up and declaring yourself a citizen of the world. Being responsible for how your corner of the world treats the rest of it. Not just saying you want to make a difference, but helping to do just that.

Live Aid, Live 8, they are both symbols for all this and more. On July 2^nd the richer western world is going to have a second chance to prove its not selfish, that it cares for more than just power, money, and politics. It’s an amazing thing, and I’m glad I can be part of it in any small way that I can.

Oh and to this guy in Philly who, selfishly mis-understanding the whole thing, said on the BBC website:

I work 10 hours a day to feed my family, not Africa.

You’re an idiot. Work 20 hours a day in a rubbish pit for scraps, earning in a year what you probably earn in a day, and then maybe I’ll have some sympathy. You have it easy, and your selfish little mind obviously doesn’t understand that.

Currently I am enjoying severe lower back pain.

Yeah, not exactly nice.

It wouldn’t be as bad if I knew what I’d done to get it. Perhaps I just slept wierdly… I dunno. Anyhow, work which was going to get done today is… well, not happening. Which is annoying, as I wanted to update SACK and, if there was time, Touched. Oh well… I’m going to crawl back into bed now and try not to move…

By the end of this week Microsoft has to open up its core code to competitors or face a fine of £5mil a day. This should be interesting. I’m not holding my breath though…
